STRONG Sisters
Culturally Safe Strength, Wellbeing, and Community for Young Women
STRONG Sisters is a 12-month, fully funded, prevention-focused programme for girls and young women aged 11–17 from ethnically diverse and underrepresented communities in Scunthorpe. The programme provides a culturally safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where participants can build physical strength, confidence, emotional wellbeing, and positive identity.
Through structured fitness, wellbeing workshops, and mentoring, STRONG Sisters supports young women who may face additional barriers to participation, including cultural expectations, discrimination, low confidence, or limited access to safe physical activity spaces.
Cost: Fully funded (free to attend)
About STRONG Sisters
STRONG Sisters recognises that girls from diverse backgrounds may experience intersectional challenges, including mental health stigma, body image pressures, social isolation, and reduced access to sport and wellbeing services.
The programme combines gym-based training, group discussion, and mentoring, delivered in a way that respects culture, faith, identity, and lived experience. Sessions are designed to empower participants to feel strong in their bodies, confident in who they are, and supported within their community.
STRONG Sisters aligns closely with community partners and local organisations supporting young women from diverse backgrounds, ensuring the programme is trusted, accessible, and relevant.
