Matt Kerr
Personal Trainer
Hi, all! I’m Matthew, a personal trainer from Glasgow. Inspired by my own love of the gym and passion for improving mental health, I have been a qualified PT since 2023.
The impact of mental health.
Mental health has had a huge impact on my life. I lost my beloved Gran to Alzheimer’s Disease when I was a child and struggled greatly with my mental health afterwards. I blamed myself for her loss, began self-harming, and even attempted to take my own life. A teacher at my high school reached out to my family with their concerns, and I was lucky enough to receive help through counselling, which meant I was able to find the right tools to work on myself, and find happiness once again. I met my wife online soon after and began to associate the gym with personal growth.
A shoulder to cry on.
After I received my own counselling, I started to understand my mental health better, which pushed me to be a shoulder for friends and family to cry on. My best friend suffered from depression, and I was there when he needed someone to rant to. I love lending a listening ear to others, sharing my own experiences and helping people to find their own safe space in the gym.
The light at the end of the tunnel.
Nowadays, my life is much brighter- I’ve discovered myself through my fitness journey and feel so much joy and fulfilment in helping others find theirs. I enjoy travelling with my wife, playing board games with friends and painting miniature figures for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. Everything I have been through has made me stronger as a person and now, I’m ready to take on the world.
