New Beginnings, Unit 2, Davidson House, East Common Lane, Scunthorpe DN16 1DD, UK

About the event

The MoveMENt and Break The Stigma Support Group offers support, advice, and exercise to all men aged 18 and above. Its aim is to create a non-judgemental environment where men can share their experiences, receive support and be able to support others too.

The group meets every first Friday of the month starting at 6pm at New Beginnings Personal Training and Wellness Facility on East Common Lane in Scunthorpe.

From 6pm to 7.30pm we have trained Counsellors, Mental Health First Aiders, Coaches and Inspirational Speakers who provide structured talks and advice.  Men are encouraged to open up about their mental health issues should they wish to. By doing this we are encouraging an extended support network.

With much talk about how mental health and social support is needed in the news and media, yet little frontline support, there is clearly a massive need to take action.

The New Beginnings Team and the Break The Stigma Team came up with the idea to collaborate and build a partnership together to offer a support group for men and their families in North Lincolnshire.

Why? Because the facts are shocking!

·  In the UK, the highest suicide rate was for men aged 45-49

·  In the UK, men are three times as likely to take their own lives than women

·  Suicide is still the single biggest killer of young British men

What makes The MoveMENt and the Break The Stigma Support Group different?

1.  The support group is not just peer led but is also facilitated by professionally qualified and trained therapists and mental health first aiders

2.  It is aimed at Men but their families can attend too.

3.  Mental Health First Aid experts

4.  People with first-hand experience of similar challenges

5.  Passionate about enabling men to have their voice heard in a safe environment

6.  Educational, practical and inspirational talks on subjects including relationships, addiction, mental health, and self-esteem

Who is this Support Group for?

We encourage any men who have experienced mental health issues or are facing or have faced challenges to attend, whether it be to share their stories, inspire others, or to get out of the house and socialise with like-minded people. With our uncertain times it’s important for men to talk.

Men are all too often taught we don’t talk, we don’t want to drop our mask and let people know our fears and problems, we often suppress emotions, we become someone who we don’t even know.

We want local communities to break this cycle, to encourage men that it's OK to talk, to let our fellow men know we are here and we are in this together. All it takes is two Men to start a conversation.

The Support Group is held every first Friday of the month at 6pm till 7.30pm.  There is no need to book you can just show up and the group is also free, with refreshments included.
